Add the same set to every localized page, including its own URL. Google requires reciprocal links between variants; this generator cannot inspect deployed pages.

Example and implementation checks

For the same product in Turkish and English, enter tr https://example.com/urun/ and en https://example.com/en/product/. Add the generated pair to both pages. If you have a language selector, its URL can be used as x-default.

The supported list follows the bundled IANA language/script subtags and assigned ISO alpha-2 regions (registry file dated September 17, 2026). For example, en-GB is accepted; en-UK, es-419, and private-use regions are outside this Google-focused draft. Explicit script tags such as zh-Hans-US are supported. Codes are case-insensitive.

Inputs are processed in your browser and URLs are not requested. The output does not verify HTTP status, page language, canonical, indexability, or reciprocal return links. Separately crawl the deployed pages and confirm every target is accessible, self-listed, and mutually linked.

What does this hreflang generator do?

Create an HTML link-tag draft from language codes and URLs that you provide. The tool checks input syntax locally; it does not request the URLs, inspect page language or canonical tags, or crawl deployed hreflang relationships.

The supported Google-focused subset includes ISO 639-1 language codes, optional ISO 15924 script subtags, and assigned ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 regions. Duplicate codes and normalized page URLs assigned to different language codes block output. The result is one shared set to add to every localized page, including its own URL.

How to use it

  1. Enter one language code and its fully qualified HTTP(S) URL per line. Use a script or region subtag only when the page variant needs it.
  2. Optionally enter an x-default fallback URL, such as a language selector. Review every generated URL and code before copying.
  3. Add the same set to each localized page. Crawl the deployed pages separately to verify accessible targets, self references, reciprocal links, and canonical choices.

When to use it

  • Draft a shared tag set for corresponding Turkish and English service or product pages.
  • Represent language variants with regional or script distinctions such as en-GB or zh-Hans-US.
  • Add an x-default URL for users whose language does not match a listed variant.

This tool processes supplied data in your browser. Text and inputs are analyzed on your device without being sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Does this generator check that my hreflang tags work on the live site?

No. It validates the codes and URL syntax you enter and builds HTML. It makes no network requests and cannot confirm page status, language, canonical, indexability, or reciprocal return links. Crawl every deployed variant and inspect its rendered head separately.

Do hreflang annotations need to link back to each other?

Each version should list itself and the other localized versions in the set. Google may ignore a relationship when a reciprocal link is missing; this does not necessarily invalidate other mutually linked pairs.

Which language code formats can I use?

Use a language subtag, with an optional script and region where applicable, such as en-GB or zh-Hans-US. This tool supports a dated Google-focused subset of assigned codes; it rejects unsupported formats such as region-only values and es-419.

Does hreflang improve rankings or guarantee the right result?

Hreflang helps Google understand localized alternatives and choose a language or regional URL for a user. It does not guarantee rankings, a particular result, or improved engagement.
