URL and parameter rules

Use an absolute HTTP/HTTPS URL; credentials and control characters are rejected. Source, medium, and campaign are required; term and content are optional. Leading/trailing spaces are trimmed and Unicode NFC is applied; letters are not removed or silently lowercased. Values are encoded with URLSearchParams. Set capitalization rules in your campaign naming convention.

Existing query parameters and the #fragment are preserved. Case variants and duplicates of the five managed UTM keys are removed before new values are added; an empty optional field removes its old value. Other keys such as utm_id are preserved and should be reviewed separately if needed.

The synthetic example uses example.com: the “October SEO” campaign value is URL-encoded, while the existing product parameter and fragment remain. Invalid input clears the previous output and disables copying. The tool does not request the destination URL or validate campaign or GA4 setup.

Use UTM parameters on campaign links arriving from outside your site; plan event measurement instead of tagging internal links. Do not put email addresses, phone numbers, or customer IDs in parameters. Review channel classification, auto-tagging, parameter preservation across redirects, and consent/measurement settings separately. Generating a UTM URL is not evidence of traffic or conversions.

Bring Google Ads, Meta Ads, and landing-page performance into one measurement framework.

How does a UTM builder make campaign tracking easier?

The UTM builder creates a local URL draft from source, medium, campaign, and optional term and content values. Letter case is preserved, so set a campaign naming standard. GA4 data streams and channel grouping need to be verified separately.

It checks HTTP/HTTPS, the required fields, and existing managed UTM keys. Other query parameters and the fragment are preserved. Destination availability, redirects, and GA4 acceptance are not verified.

How to use it

  1. Enter the base URL, then the source, medium, and campaign fields.
  2. Fill in term and content if you need them, then build the final URL.
  3. Copy the generated link and use it in ads, email, social posts, or partner channels.

When to use it

  • Set a consistent parameter standard across Google Ads, Meta Ads, and email campaigns.
  • Separate different creatives in the same campaign with the content parameter.
  • Keep reporting from fragmenting between an agency and the client team.

This tool processes supplied data in your browser. Text and inputs are analyzed on your device without being sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Do UTM parameters hurt SEO?

Uncontrolled parameterized URLs can create duplicates. That is why canonical tags and sharing clean URLs outside reporting contexts matter.

Which fields are required?

This tool does not create a draft until source, medium, and campaign are filled in. Term and content are optional; when left empty, their old managed values are removed.

Can I use spaces and non-English characters?

Yes. Unicode NFC normalization and URL encoding are applied, so letters such as Turkish characters are preserved. Values are case-sensitive. Use a consistent naming dictionary; the tool does not silently lowercase values.
